Are you disorganized? It could be your house, your day, or your desk. Being disorganized affects us more than we realize, it fatigues us and creates more stress in our lives. Our current society has access to more things than we’ve ever had. We have more clothes, more food choices, and in general just more things. It is so simple for us to just buy something quick to make our lives “easier”! The problem is, these things pile up and create a disorganized home or office for us. It steals our energy and time. I for one know how much stress it causes when you have a messy office. It takes away from my ability to move seamlessly from one project to the next. I waste time looking for papers I need, or may not prioritize the most important task, because it isn’t in a proper place. I know I work best being able to see what needs to be done and I want to be able to prioritize it. Since we have remodeled, I have been working towards a system that will help me see what needs to be done, and use my time in the best way possible. Our living space is the same! It is not a new thing to feel disorganized, but it is being talked about more recently, especially with shows like Marie Kondo’s, Tidying Up, on Netflix.
People are craving a feeling of peace when they come home. If your house doesn’t give you that feeling when you walk in the door, the stress of the day doesn’t melt away, it is added on. The problem is, most people aren’t sure where to start or how to keep it up even if they do. There are many resources out there and tips/ tricks, but sometimes an expert is called for, people like Helen Austin. She can help give you the steps and strategies needed to get your space under control! Systems are the best way to do that. I know here at Whole Life Chiropractic, we have many systems in place to help the day run as smooth as possible. They make everyone's life easier. When you can create a system for organizing and keep it going, it becomes a habit and takes away one more decision you have to make. You will end up with more time and more peace of mind when you set up systems for yourself and your family. Teaching these systems to your kids can help them feel less stress too.
Take a minute right now to see and feel what your day would be like if you came home to an organized home. Does that make you want to take a sigh of relief? If so, start small and work though each area of your home, creating a space for your things or getting rid of things that do not serve a purpose anymore. If that visualization gives you a heavy feeling in your gut just thinking about the process, you probably need it the most. Look into the resources out there that can help you establish simple systems and habits enabling you to drop away those stressful feelings!
